After crashing and burning in Washington, DC as a journalist during the 2016 election, Andrea Gonzales-Paul (now Di Bernardo) fled back to the Midwest to try to heal. After picking up The Artist's Way, she moved from Detroit to Madison, WI and began writing music, eventually forming the band Mickey Sunshine with her friends Joe Biglin, Tony Duvall, and her guitar instructor Bill Dickman.

After going through a few line-up changes and meeting drummer (and future husband) Chris Di Bernardo, touring the Midwest in the world's cheapest Sprinter Van, Mickey Sunshine hit the basement studio of Disq's Logan Severson to record their first EP; songs documenting Andrea's journey from DC to her new home; struggles with addiction and mental health, as well as finding her place in the world.

Mickey Sellout Pt 1 encapsulates the beginning of this journey
